Parliament of Georgia Discussed IDFI’s Legislative Proposal on Archival Openness

On 30 August 2019, at the session of the Legal Issues Committee, the Parliament of Georgia discussed the legislative proposal on the amendments in the laws on the National Archival Fund and the National Archives and on the Personal Data Protection presented by the Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, Giorgi Kldiashvili (N1-7153/19; 10.04.2019).

Training of Journalists and Activists from Adjara Region

The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) continues to hold trainings for journalists and activists. On August 2, 2019, IDFI team visited Batumi and conducted a training for 22 journalists and activists from the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Empowering Georgian Media for Monitoring Government Transparency & Accountability

On 3-4 July 2019, IDFI held a training in Kvareli for east Georgia media (16 participants; print, online and broadcasting) representatives working on data analysis. The training titled - Working on Open Data for Effective Monitoring of Government Accountability - is part of a series of trainings organized by IDFI as part of the project on Empowering Watchdog Community for Government Accountability.

National Assessment of Georgian Municipalities - 2019

The average rate of transparency and accountability of municipalities in Georgia still remains low – 28%, 25% for city halls and 31% for municipal councils. On July 2, 2019 representatives of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), Centre for Training and Consultancy (CTC) and Management Systems Development Center (MSDC)presented Evaluation of Municipalities in 2019, according to the Local Self-Government Index.

Tbilisi City Court Fully Granted the Appeal of IDFI against the National Archives of Georgia

In the decision of April 4, 2019, the Tbilisi City Court fully granted the appeal of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) against the National Archives of Georgia – LEPL of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. The court ordered the respondent party to disclose information on the number of applications received with the request of accessing archival documents and relevant decisions taken. The National Archives of Georgia was directed to disclose the information even though they did not process the statistical data requested by IDFI.
