The Georgian National Anti-Corruption System is Ineffective against High Level Corruption

Over the last few months, Georgia has seen a resurgence of information about possible cases of high level corruption involving current and former public officials. This is a continuation of a long-standing trend in the country, whereby media and non-governmental organizations identify possible corruption cases and either no investigation is conducted or the public is left in the dark about the results, leading to a decrease in public trust towards law enforcement and investigative authorities.

Tbilisi City Hall Approves Its Second OGP Action Plan (2018-2020)

On October 2, 2018, Tbilisi City Hall approved the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Action Plan for 2018-2020. This is the second action plan approved by Tbilisi under the OGP sub-national pilot program, which includes 14 other cities around the world.

Prosecution Service on the Verge of Changes: Way to Improve Existing Challenges in the System

The case of Khorava street murders has yet again initiated discussions about the necessity of changes in the Georgian justice system. The recent rallies were not just a mere protest against the improper investigation of the murder of two schoolchildren, but clearly demonstrated the long-standing public dissatisfaction and mistrust towards the existing justice system, and the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia in particular.

OGP Global Summit in Georgia

On July 17-19, the fifth Summit of Open Government Partnership (OGP) took place in Tbilisi. The Summit was opened with the Parliamentary Day that was hosted by the Parliament of Georgia. On July 17, parallel to the Parliamentary Day, within the scope of the OGP Summit, Civil Society Day was held, where civil society representatives working on open governance gathered.

OGP - Global Summits and Georgia's Achievements

Open Government Partnership (OGP) was launched on September 20, 2011, at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. As of today, it is composed of 76 member countries. OGP is a multilateral international initiative that aims to secure specific commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizen participation in the decision-making processes, fight corruption, secure effectiveness and accountability of governments and harness new technologies to strengthen open governance.

Georgia joined the Open Government Partnership in 2011 and since then developed three National Action Plans that included important commitments related to the fight against corruption and increasing of transparency, quality of public Service delivery and citizen engagement.
