The Supreme Court of Georgia prepares a registry of covert investigative actions. The registry holds statistics on covert investigative activities, in particular, on the motions for carrying out covert investigative actions submitted to the court and the court rulings on them.

The Selection of Candidates for the Supreme Court Judges is Arbitrary and Unfair

On June 17, 2021, the High Council of Justice held a ballot for the Supreme Court candidates to be nominated to the Parliament. As a result, nine candidates were selected.

IDFI Negatively Assesses the Suggested Amnesty for Violations of Covid-related Regulations

On June 24, the Prime Minister of Georgia announced an expected amnesty for those fines that were issued for violating Covid-related regulations. According to the Prime Minister, all fines will be written off and all ongoing prosecutions will be terminated.

On June 18, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) with the support from the European Union (EU), within the project Monitoring Covid-19 related public spendings and human rights protection during the state of emergency and after, held an online public discussion about access to public information during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On 16 June 2021 Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) held a working meeting with the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.  The participants of the working meeting discussed the legislative measures to be taken to enforce the decision of the Constitutional Court of Georgia of June 7, 2019.

The Coalition Reacts to the Competition of Supreme Court Judicial Candidates

The Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary calls on the Parliament to elect Supreme Court judges based on a political consensus between the parliamentary majority and the opposition, otherwise, to refrain from making a decision regarding this issue until a fundamental justice reform is implemented.

Coalition: A New Constitutional Court Judge Should be Elected through an Inclusive Process

On July 26, 2021, the term of Tamaz Tsabutashvili, a Constitutional Court judge, will expire. The President of Georgia must appoint a new member of the Court. According to the law, the new judge must be appointed from June 26 to July 16.

Government’s inaction demonstrates its support for judicial clan

On 26 May, the Conference of Judges elected four members to the High Council of Justice (HCJ) for a four-year term thus completely ignoring calls by international partners and non-governmental organisations and further strengthening the positions of the clan dominating the judicial system as a result of this decision.
