On December 2, 2021, Giorgi Kldiashvili, Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) will participate in the 2021 Open Parliament Forum which is organized by the Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation (TAEF).
Transparency of tax information and beneficial owners is one of the most important mechanisms for preventing corruption. The recent instances of journalists and civil monitoring groups uncovering opaque practices in this regard have made the topic all the more urgent.
On November 26, the representatives of the administration of the political parties from the Eastern Partnership Countries visited IDFI. The participants of the meeting belonged to political organizations of Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova and Belarus, such as Batkivshchyna,European Solidarity,Party of Action and Solidarity,Movement for Freedom and United Civil Party.
On November 24, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) presented a toolkit and regional study on beneficial ownership.
The regional study on beneficial ownership was prepared by IDFI and its partner organizations from Visegrad Group, with the goal of overviewing legislation and practice on beneficial ownership transparency in Georgia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.
At the 21st plenary session on October 26, 2021, the Anti-Corruption Network of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD/ACN) was planning to approve a report on the assessment of the anti-corruption environment in Georgia. However, the Georgian government refused to give its approval to the report and demanded additional time with the aim of amending the text of the document. The report was prepared as part of the 5th round of monitoring by the OECD/ACN (using a new pilot methodology), which studies the country’s anti-corruption environment, including the existence of risks of high-level corruption.
On November 15, 2021, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) conducted training on effective oversight, data extraction methods and the data visualization for participants of the Certification Program in Fighting Corruption.
Well-functioning public administration is a prerequisite for transparent and effective democratic governance and the foundation of the functioning of the state. Effective public administration is vital for implementing crucial reforms and reaching the goal of the European integration.
On November 10, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA), with the support of the European Union, presented the results of the study titled “Best European Practice of Public Administration and Georgia”.
On October 15, 2021, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) conducted training on effective oversight and data extraction methods for investigative/data journalists.
