Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) became a local partner of the Slovakia-based independent consulting company and think-tank - Strategic Analysis.
The Institute for Development of the Freedom of Information, with the support of the USAID Economic Governance Program, is implementing the project "Promoting PPD in Georgia through Monitoring and Awareness-Raising".
IDFI continues raising awareness about the PPD Quality Tracking Mechanism in municipalities. This time, the representatives of IDFI and the USAID Economic Governance Program conducted an info session with the representatives of Rustavi City Council and City Hall.
On November 4, 2022, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) held the concluding event of the project and the report "Media Access to Public Information: Legislation v. Reality" presentation, as well as a discussion on practical problems of access to public information.
On February 9, 2022, Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) completed the process of exhumation in Adjara and the mass grave №6 of the victims of the Great Terror of 1937-1938.
Tbilisi City Court sentenced Nika Gvaramia to imprisonment on May 16, 2022. On November 2, 2022, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals upheld the decision regarding Nika Gvaramia’s imprisonment.
On October 25, the representatives of IDFI and the USAID Economic Governance Program met with the members of the Gori Municipal Council and Gori City Hall in the city of Gori.
The term of office of the current Public Defender, Nino Lomjaria, expires on December 8, 2022. According to the 12th priority defined by the European Union, Georgia must “ensure that an independent person is given preference in the process of nominating a new Public Defender (Ombudsperson) and that this process is conducted in a transparent manner”.
On October 18, 2022, Freedom House published an annual report on Internet freedom around the world. In 2022, Georgia obtained a score of 78 out of 100 and was assessed as “Free” in terms of Internet freedom. The country’s score improved by 1 point compared to 2021.
On October 11-12, 2022, the Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) in cooperation with the National Parliament Library of Georgia and Center of Regional Initiatives - “Bright Future” held a presentation on the issue of repressed people in Ozurgeti and Khoni and a screening of the film "Cemetery of the Shot in Batumi" shot by Radio Free Georgia/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).
