Local Self-Government Index: Results for 2017

The overall results of the 2017 evaluation of Georgian municipalities were low. On the scale of 0 to 100%, the average result of all municipalities was only 21% (19% for city halls / municipal administrations and 24% for municipal councils).

Is Law of Georgia on Occupied Territories Enforced?

After the Russian-Georgian war of August 2008, and the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by the Russian Federation, Georgia adopted a Law on Occupied Territories, which limited the ability of foreign citizens to travel and conduct economic activities on the occupied territories.

Georgia-Russia Economic Relations in 2008-2016

The Georgian diaspora living in the Russian Federation is the largest source of remittances for Georgia. Since 2014, this volume of remittances from Russia has decreased significantly, while imports have increased. This has a negative effect on the Georgian economy, including the stability of the national currency.
