IDFI Hosted the High Shcool Students from Khashuri

On May 28 Institute for Development of Freedom of Information hosted the students of Public School #8 of Khashuri. Director of organization, Giorgi Kldiashvili conducted the lecture on Stalinism.

 

Speaker talked about the repressions of 1937-38 and made the students familiar with the experience of IDFI in this direction. In 1937-38 years with the signature of Stalin, 3615 persons from Georgia were repressed. Moscow was sending the information, including the names and the punishment measures of persons. There are 12 such lists on Georgia, sent in different periods of time.

 

Students were made familiar with the pictures of the victims and the protocols. Giorgi Kldiashvili also talked about the graves of the victims of repressions. The graves and remains of the victims of 1937-39 purge are not yet discovered and studied. Giorgi Kldiashvili talked about the experience of the Polish Partners of IDFI and added that in the nearest future IDFI plans to start searching the graves of the victims in cooperation with the Polish partners.

 

In addition to the 1937-38 events, meeting also concerned the issue of August 1924 revolt and the fate of the organizers. Students expressed particular interest in the names of the victims of repressions who come from Khashuri, expressed willingness to cooperate with the organization and work in archives.

 

IDFI welcomes such interest towards these issues among the youth.
