On June 24-25, 2021, in cooperation with the State Inspector's Service, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the Social Justice Center held a working meeting with media representatives.
The investigation cases, which had been unknown until now, concerning the repressed brothers – Polikarpe, Levan and Ivane Rukhadze, were given to the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) for research purposes.
As a result of the spread of COVID-19 and the restrictions imposed in its wake, Georgia's GDP decreased by 6.2% in 2020. The economic crisis has also had a major impact on the state budget, increasing spending on healthcare and various types of subsidies. On June 9, 2020, the Ministry of Finance of Georgia submitted a draft amendment to the Law on the State Budget of Georgia for 2020, based on which the maximum reduction of administrative costs aimed at financing the budget deficit was planned.
In the survey carried out by IDFI in 2020, to the question about the sources of civil servants' information about the whistleblowing institution during the quantitative survey, 39% of the respondents stated that they did not have any information.
The state budget of Georgia includes reserve funds, the purpose of which is to cover unforeseen expenses incurred during the year. As with the state budget, reserve funds are also included as part of the budgets of local self-government units.
On June 18, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) with the support from the European Union (EU), within the project Monitoring Covid-19 related public spendings and human rights protection during the state of emergency and after, held an online public discussion about access to public information during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On 16 June 2021 Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) held a working meeting with the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. The participants of the working meeting discussed the legislative measures to be taken to enforce the decision of the Constitutional Court of Georgia of June 7, 2019.
On June 11, 2021, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), in its capacity as the regional hub for the Global Data Barometer (GDB), held a training session for national researchers.
On June 10, 2021, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the University of Georgia.
The Georgian Parliament discussed the Draft Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Information Security with the III reading and adopted the Bill with 77 votes against 2 that contradicts EU regulations (Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS).
