Award Ceremony for Participants of the Certification Program in Fighting Corruption

On October 19, 2024, the award ceremony for the participants of the 2023-2024 Certification Program in Fighting Corruption was held. During the event, participants who successfully completed the academic courses offered by the program were awarded certificates. Additionally, representatives from the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), Ilia State University, and the USAID National Governance Program summarized the results of the 2023-2024 academic year.

 

The event was opened by IDFI Executive Director, Giorgi Kldiashvili, who expressed gratitude to the program's partner, Ilia State University, for hosting the program, as well as to the project’s financial supporters, USAID National Governance Program and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). He then presented the results achieved through the program. The participants also heard remarks from:

 

 - Levan Avalishvili - Program Director, IDFI

 - Nino Mataradze - Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Arts, Ilia State University

 - Richard Haselwood – Chief of Party of the USAID National Governance Program

 - Teona Turashvili - Head of Local Government, Civic Tech and Innovations Directions at IDFI

 - Giorgi Chkheidze - Lecturer for the Anti-Corruption Certification Program course on Good Governance and Corruption.

 

The event also featured presentations of policy papers prepared by the winners of the policy document competition for program participants and graduates. The presented works included:

 - Nino Kapanadze - Policy Document: Challenges and Perspectives in Representing Citizens' Interests in the Parliament of Georgia

 - Mate Bubashvili - Policy Document: Strengthening Inter-Municipal Activities in Georgia

 - Goga Razmadze - Policy Document: Institutional Mechanisms for Preventing Road Traffic Incidents.

Following the discussion of the program's outcomes, the award ceremony for the 2023-2024 graduates took place, during which the top three graduates were recognized for their achievements.

 

The Anti-Corruption Program offers courses such as:

 - Good Governance and Corruption

 - Corruption, Money, and Politics

 - Managing Anti-Corruption Policies in Public and Private Institutions

 - The Fight Against Corruption: International Actors and Anti-Corruption Platforms.

 

Distinguished specialists in the field are invited as lecturers of these courses.

 

The participants selected through the competition, along with undergraduate and graduate students from Ilia State University, are enrolled in the courses of the Certification Program in Fighting Corruption, which are part of the curriculum of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Ilia State University. This opportunity allows Ilia State University students to receive both - a certificate of program completion and academic credits.

It is noteworthy that during the 2023-2024 academic year, with the support of the USAID National Governance Program, IDFI offered additional activities to program participants and alumni network members, including:

 - Public discussions on various relevant good governance reforms, featuring leading experts.

 - Expert opinions on key good governance reforms.

 - A policy document competition for young professionals.

 - Online training and consultations for young professionals interested in the policy document competition.

 - A Good Governance School for youth, aimed at enhancing theoretical and practical skills related to ongoing reforms and government monitoring mechanisms.

 - Scholarships for preparing analytical papers.

 

The program provides a unique opportunity for individuals employed in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as students, to become experts in the fight against corruption, gain theoretical and practical knowledge, share experiences from other countries, and contribute to combating corruption at various levels in Georgia.

 

The 2023-2024 program was implemented with the financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the USAID National Governance Program.
