The number of Georgian citizens who emigrated from the country was 118 thousand more than the number of returning citizens in 2022-2023. During the same period, 73.7 thousand Russian citizens stayed to live in the country.
In 2023, among the 163,480 Georgian citizens who emigrated, 70% (114 438) were below the age of 30, with 43% (70,003) of these being children below the age of 15.
According to Geostat, over the past ten years (2014-2023), 815,608 Georgian citizens emigrated from the country, while the number of returning citizens was lower by 265 thousand - 550,919 Georgian citizens.
According to UN data, 861,077 people born in Georgia were living abroad in 2020. Considering existing trends, their number will increase to up to a million in 2024.
