Memorandum of cooperation signed between the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” (IDFI) and the International Society “Memorial”

Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” (IDFI) and the International Society “Memorial” on 27 July.

 

Within the framework of the Memorandum it is planned to carry out different scientific, research, academic and educational activities, conduct joint projects and publish scientific studies.

 

Consultations will be held on the issues of scientific research, on the development of archive sphere, there will be exchange of information and sharing of cumulated experience.

 

The partnership of the two organizations, already counting several years, will contribute to deepening of collaboration of the international and regional scientific-research organizationsand will promote conducting archival and scientific studies about the history of the Soviet Union and totalitarian regimes.

 

The first joint scientific project with participation of the International Society “Memorial” is “Stalin Lists about Georgia”. The project is being conducted by the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” with the financial assistance of the South Caucasus Bureau of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia. The project aims at collecting information about 3600 people judged by the signatures of Stalin and other members of Politbureau during the repressions in 1937-1938 and publishing this information as a book. The book will also include a study about the Great Terror in the years of 1937-1938.
