IDFI will cooperate with the LEPL Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” and the LEPL Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on November 7, 2011.


The aim of cooperation is promoting the development of archive activities, openness of archives, modernization-digitalization of archives, and international popularization of the archive materials held in Georgia and conducting joint activities.  

In order to successfully achieve the stated objectives, it is planned within the framework of the memorandum to conduct different scientific, research and educational projects, issue joint publications, studies, books and as well as organize conferences and working meetings.

IDFI has been cooperating in this direction with the Archive Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for a long time. A project “Transparent Archives” has been implemented, the presentation of a publication of collection of the archival documents has been held, a conference has been organized where the public became familiar with the archive materials about the events occurred in Georgia in the period of 5-9 March, 1956.


At the moment the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” and the LEPL Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia are jointly working on the project “Stalin’s lists on Georgia”. Within the frameworks of this project it is planned to publish a book on the victims of 1937-1938 repressions.


The director of LEPL “Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia” Mr. Omar Tushurashvili and the director of the “Institute for Development of Freedom of Information” Mr. Giorgi Kldiashvili signed the document.
