On September 14-15th, Parliament of Georgia hosted the Open Government Partnership Conference within the scopes of the Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW) under the title: "Committing to Openness: Parliamentary Action Plans, Standards, and Tools." The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) along with the Parliament of Georgia, made a considerable input in organizing the conference. Representatives of the IDFI were in the spotlight of the media. Two TV stories, a TV program were aired and several articles were published on the TV Channels of: Rustavi 2, Imedi, Radio Tavisufleba, Infocaucasus.com and Ipn.ge.
Director of IDFI, Giorgi Kldiashvili claimed in the interview given to Rustavi 2 that there are problems related to access to legislative information. However, civil society organizations are actively working to enhance the indicators of openness and accessibility.
In the interview given to Imedi, Giorgi Kldiashvili claimed that non-governmental organizations are not complaining about openness or difficulties with obtaining the information from the Parliament of Georgia; but such problems emerge when NGOs deal with several governmental departments and this issue is going to be noted in the annual report on transparency and accessibility of information in the Government of Georgia.
In the Day show of Radio Freedom, Davit Maisuradze - Project Coordinator of 'Supporting Parliament of Georgia Involvement in Open Government Partnership Initiative' - was invited. He discussed importance of Open Government Partnership and the achievements that Georgia has achieved as a member of the OGP. Davit also talked about the challenges and obstacles that Parliament of Georgia faces in openness. According to him, IDFI and other organizations have made significant steps for enhancing Parliamentary openness and increasing civic involvement in Parliamentary activities in future.
Radio Freedom also published an article about the Conference of Legislative Openness Working Group held in the scopes of the Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW). The Chairman of the IDFI, Levan Avalishvili discussed the Open Parliament Action Plan 2015-2016 which was approved by the Bureau of the Parliament on July 17th, 2015. Levan noted that it is a very ambitious action plan in a sense of Open Government Partnership initiative and he added, that the Parliament of Georgia has taken 18 considerable and innovative commitments to fulfill.
In the articles of Infocaucasus.com and Ipn.ge it was written that two-day working meeting for legislative openness took place in Georgia with the assistance of the IDFI.
