International conference - "New Frontiers: The South Caucasus Amidst New Challenges"

On June 22-23, 2023, the 9th annual conference of the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC) - "New Frontiers: The South Caucasus Amidst New Challenges" was held.

 

At the aforementioned conference, during the round table discussion titled "Archival accessibility and openness in the Caucasus and Eurasia," Anton Vatcharadze, the head of the memory and disinformation studies department at the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), presented a report. In his report, he focused on the new law on "personal data protection" and the publicity surrounding the standards. He noted that the new law fundamentally altered the balance between personal data protection and information transparency, establishing new standards of publicity, which should be regarded as a step forward. Simultaneously, it was emphasized that the new law regulated the issue of openness of archival documents.

 

The discussion was moderated by Timothy Blauvelt from Ilia State University. The participants were: Catriona Kelly, University of Cambridge, Evgeniya Prusskaya, Institute of Oriental Studies, Ilia State University, Harrison King, UC Berkeley, Aram Ghoogasian, Princeton University.

 

During the 9th annual conference of the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC), participants from various countries and institutions presented their research, covering a broad range of topics, including conflicts, human migration, politics, the role of the media, civil society, and activism. As part of the discussion, different perspectives and ideas related to research methods were explored.
