IDFI's remark on the attack against the Executive Director of the organization

Statements | Rule of Law, Human Rights and Freedom of Media 7 May 2024

Today, on the 7th of May, at around 16:00, in the vicinity of the Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi, while communicating with the media, an unknown person attacked the Executive Director of IDFI, Giorgi Kldiashvili. The attacker verbally insulted Giorgi Kldiashvili from the car and after the car stopped, started a physical confrontation. Shortly after the IDFI representatives left the area, the same person attacked the media – a TV Formula camera crew, a cameraman, and a driver.

It is noteworthy that the incident took place near the Embassy of Sweden at a time when the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell is visiting Georgia, holding high-level meetings to support the process of Georgia's integration into the European Union.

We consider that the attack on the  Executive Director of IDFI and media representatives is a direct result of a hate campaign being carried out by the ruling party in support of Russian Law.
