IDFI held information meetings about NATO in Vakhtangisi and Iormughanlo

On October 18 and 25, 2023, in the village of Vakhtangisi, Gardabani municipality, and on October 26 and 29, in the village of Iormughanlo, Sagarejo municipality, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), within the framework of the project funded by NATO Public Diplomacy Programs/Division - "Overcoming barriers to fight misinformation in ethnic minorities", held information meetings.

 

In the village of Vakhtangisi, the training was conducted by the invited trainer Nurana Musali, in the village of Iormughanlo - Ayhan Hasanli. They talked about the main principles and goals of NATO, the role of NATO in resolving conflicts, focused on the relationship between NATO and Georgia, and also discussed the disinformation narratives about NATO spread in the region and the mechanisms of combating these narratives.

 

The invited trainer, Nodari Kiria, spoke about the diversity of misinformation in the modern Internet space and the importance of defense against it. He gave theoretical advice to the training participants on what to pay attention to when learning the news in order not to share a misinformation narrative. In the second part of the training, Nodari Kiria presented various simple and practical online platforms, through which it is possible to find the source of the content and verify any news.

 

The project "Overcoming barriers to fight misinformation in ethnic minorities" aims to eliminate the anti-NATO attitude and lack of knowledge in the communities of ethnic minorities living in the regions of Georgia; getting acquainted with the security guarantees that Georgia will receive in case of NATO membership; Raising awareness about NATO and its mission in Georgia, promoting the resilience of ethnic minority communities against disinformation.

 

Participants of the event were given bilingual certificates after the training session.
