Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary is making a statement with respect to the arrest of Giorgi Kldiashvili, Director of the Coalition member organization - Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI). It has come to Coalition’s attention that the court has found his arrest illegal and held that the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had carried it out in violation of the requirements envisioned in law.
On December 12th, Department of Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained Giorgi Kldiashvili, director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) on charges of illicit carrying of firearms.
Regardless of the fact, whether or not the acts of Giorgi Kldiashvili were illegal, his two-day detention by investigative authorities constitutes purposeful measure of punishment against the active member of civil society and the director of the Institute.
On November 12th the Russian news agency “RIA Novosti” announced that “Sputnik”, information and analytical radio station of “Rossiya Segodnya” [Russian: "Россия сегодня"] started broadcasting in Georgia . According to “RIA Novosti”, the programs will be in Georgian language and will be aired for four hours at the initial stage. However 24-hour broadcasting is planned for the future.

As it became known on August 5th, Russian Federal Migration Service has deprived of residence permit USA citizen Jennifer Susan Gaspar, wife of Ivan Pavlov, founder of “Freedom of Information Foundation”.

IDFI congratulates every citizen and supporter of Georgia with Independence Day. Especially for this day the Institute releases for the first time a secret document kept in the archives of the USA. This document was prepared on 24 April 1990, at an early stage of Georgian independence, by Directorate Intelligence of the USA as an analytical memorandum on the events developed in Georgia.
