Archive activities carried out by IDFI in 2012

During 2012 IDFI (Institute for Development of Freedom of Information) carried out several activities related to archival work: exhibition and study visit, which aimed to introduce organizational work on national and international level;

 

In May 2012, group of analysts prepared research paper about the sites of mass execution in 1937-38; Paper included short historical data and archival documents from the Ministry of Internal Affairs; Small research in archival documents showed, that executions took place quite often, there were a big group of executed people and some prisoners had beatings on their bodies; Organization planned to bring group of experts to special sites for excavations and discovering the exact burying places; 

 

It is worthy to highlight that IDFI organized an exhibition “Great Terror 1937-38 – Stalin Lists” in the framework of the project “Stalin Lists about Georgia”; The exhibition presented the unique documental and photo materials displaying the tragic events developed in Georgia in 1937-1938. These materials have been found by IDFI in the Archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, its Analytic Department, the Society “Memorial of Georgia”, as well as in the families of the repressed people.

 

On July 27th 2012, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information arranged the visit of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Germany to the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The guests examined the materials kept in the archive; saw the exhibition of the archival documents and photos. Ms. Ambassador also became familiar with the files kept in the archive about those German, who were deported from Georgia in 1941.

 

On 10-15 September 2012 a research group visited the National Archive of Kazakhstan (Almaty) on a scientific trip by the initiative of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the support of the European Center for Minority Issues (ECMI Caucasus). The goal of the visit was to find and study the documents reflecting deportations from Georgia that occurred in the Soviet period during the reign of Stalin.

 

As we see, IDFI archive activities carried out throughout 2012 were the results of working in previous years in the related field;
