Mariam Mkhatvari

Mariam has joined the IDFI team in December 2023. She has eight years of professional experience working in different organizations in various positions, including as a lawyer, researcher, and projects coordinator.


At different stages, the main directions of Mariam's activities were the research of the institutional framework of the judiciary and the law enforcement system and the advocacy for reforms. For the last three years, she has worked on issues of freedom of assembly and expression, and the legal status of media actors and human rights defenders. She also coordinated strategic litigation against gender-based violence and domestic violence.


From 2009 to 2013, Mariam studied at the Faculty of Law of Tbilisi State University, where she continued her studies and obtained a Master's degree. Later, in 2019-2020, while studying at the Central European University (CEU), Mariam obtained a Master's degree in Comparative Constitutional Law.


Mariam is the author and co-author of various analytical documents, including studies and shadow reports.
She is fluent in English and Russian.
