On June 24-25, 2022, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), with the support of the Open Society Foundation (OSF), held a two-day workshop with teachers from schools in the Imereti region, namely the cities of Kutaisi, Tkibuli, Vani, Samtredia, and Zestaponi. The purpose of the meeting was to identify challenges facing the Georgian education system in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to discuss the needs and challenges of vulnerable groups during the pandemic.

Givi Adeishvili, Head of the Economic and Social Policy Direction at the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, and Mari Alughishvili, Executive Vice President of the Educators and Scientists Free Trade Union in Georgia, addressed the participants with opening remarks.

IDFI’s Economic and Social Policy team spoke to the participants about the challenges they have identified in the education sector. The main part of the two-day workshop was dedicated to the discussion, during which teachers talked about the challenges of the education sector in 2021-2022 and the challenges of educating vulnerable groups in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
