The Visit of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Federal Republic of Germany, Ms. Gabriela Von Habsburg to the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia

On July 27th 2012, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information arranged the visit of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Germany, Ms. Gabriela Von Habsburg to the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The director of the archive, Mr. Omar Tushurashvili introduced to the guest the history of the archive and discussed the ongoing activities.

The guests examined the materials kept in the archive; saw the exhibition of the archival documents and photos.
Ms. Ambassador also became familiar with the files kept in the archive about those German, who were deported from Georgia in 1941. Also, Ms. Gabriela Von Habsburg looked through other archival documents, which were for decades kept in the archive of the former KGB as classified information, and were not known to the researchers. 

The director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, Giorgi Kldiashvili discussed with the guests about accessibility of the materials kept in the Georgian archives, openness of the archives, the historical and research significance of the documents kept in the archives of Georgia.

The guests also learned about the joint activities of the archive and the Institute, and discussed in detail the ongoing research projects. The parties also talked about the future plans and the perspectives of cooperation in the direction of popularizing the archive and developing archival studies.
