IDFI Hold a Presentation of the Project – Monitoring of the Covid-19-related Public Spending and the State of Human Rights

On October 20, 2020, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), with the support from the European Union (EU) held a presentation of the project - Monitoring Covid-19 related public spendings and human rights protection during the state of emergency and after.

 

The main aim of the event was to present major activities, objectives and monitoring methodology of the new initiative.

 

Levan Avalishvili, Programs Director of IDFI and Dominika Scubida, Programme Officer for Civil Society from the  EU Delegation to Georgia addressed the participants with opening remarks.

 

"The aim of the project is to increase the effectiveness and proportionality of pandemic measures. To this end, IDFI will monitor Covid-19-related public expenditures, public procurement, the implementation of the government's Anti-crisis Action Plan, and the spending of the StopCov Fund. IDFI will also monitor the protection of human rights during the Covid-19-related restrictions, ” stated Levan Avalishvili.

 

Project objectives include:

 

- Increase government accountability, and transparency regarding Covid-19 related public spendings and Anti-Crisis Plan through monitoring, reporting, public awareness raising and advocacy efforts.

 

- Strengthen human rights standards through monitoring, advocacy and civil society engagement.

 

"The European Union has been fighting the negative effects of Covid-19 since the beginning of the crisis, and the support of civil society is an important part of this process. I wish success to IDFI in carrying out this crucial activity and call on all agencies to cooperate in order to achieve the best results, ”said Dominica Scubida.

 

The project was launched in July 2020, with the financial support of the European Union and will last for one year.
