Independent Inspector Partially Granted the Administrative Complaint of IDFI

On June 15, 2020 the Independent Inspector partially granted the administrative complaint of Institute for Development of Freedom of Information regarding abolishing its individual administrative-legal act and obligating the person responsible for releasing public information to provide requested information to IDFI.

Shortcomings in the Transparency of the Activities of the Georgian National Communications Commission

On August 2, 2018, Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) established a non-commercial legal entity “Media Academy”. The role of the organization is to promote the development of media literacy.

Statement of the Media Advocacy Coalition

According to the information published by the State Security Service of Georgia, an investigation is launched regarding the news story broadcasted by TV Channel Mtavari. In its statement, the State Security Service accuses TV Channel of disinformation and qualifies the action as a criminal offense – Sabotage.

Open Governance Council of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Conducted its First Meeting

The first meeting of the Open Governance Council of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara (SCA) was held on June 15. On the first meeting, the Charter of the Open Governance Council was discussed and approved. Members of SCA together with the representatives of international and local civil society organizations, attended the meeting.

Disciplinary Liability of Judges

Major shortcomings and challenges remain in terms of legislative framework and practice related to disciplinary liability of judges, among others: High Council of Justice holds sessions on disciplinary liability of judges with insufficient frequency, which is a contributing factor to delays of disciplinary proceedings. In 2019, the High Council of Justice held only 2 sessions to consider disciplinary cases
