The Election of the Public Defender 2022: Interim Review

The term of office of the current Public Defender, Nino Lomjaria, expires on December 8, 2022. According to the 12th priority defined by the European Union, Georgia must “ensure that an independent person is given preference in the process of nominating a new Public Defender (Ombudsperson) and that this process is conducted in a transparent manner”.

Georgia’s Performance in Freedom House’s Internet Freedom on the Net 2022 Ranking

On October 18, 2022, Freedom House published an annual report on Internet freedom around the world. In 2022, Georgia obtained a score of 78 out of 100 and was assessed as “Free” in terms of Internet freedom. The country’s score improved by 1 point compared to 2021.

IDFI held a presentation and film screening about repressed people in Ozurgeti and Khoni

On October 11-12, 2022,  the Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) in cooperation with the National Parliament Library of Georgia and Center of Regional Initiatives - “Bright Future” held a presentation on the issue of repressed people in Ozurgeti and Khoni and a screening of the film "Cemetery of the Shot in Batumi" shot by Radio Free Georgia/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

Masterclass on Designing Joint Solutions For Digital Vulnerabilities in Georgia

On October 4-7, 2022, IDFI and the e-Governance Academy (Estonia) held 1.5-day interactive masterclasses for civil society organisations (CSOs) and public institutions, to collaborate and design proposals to address the challenges digitally vulnerable citizens are encountering in Georgia.

The Certification Program in Fighting Corruption for the participants of the master's course has been Launched

On October 3, the 2022-2023 academic year began for the participants of the master's course of the Certification Program in Fighting Corruption. 25 participants selected for the master's degree program, together with 13 students of Ilia State University, will attend subjects including "Management of Anti-corruption Policy in Public and Private Institutions" and "Fighting Corruption - International Actors, Anti-corruption Platforms" for one year.

The Certification Program in Fighting Corruption has been Launched

On September 27, the 2022-2023 academic year began for the bachelor’s degree participants of the Certification Program in Fighting Corruption. 23 participants selected at the bachelor level, along with 25 students of Ilia State University, will attend subjects such as Good Governance and Corruption and Public Policy and Corruption for one year.

September 20-21, 2022, Guria region – Representatives of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) held a training for the members of the Gender Equality Council in three self-governing units of the Guria region - Chokhatauri, Lanchkhuti and Ozurgeti municipalities within the framework of the Global Goals Week.

Boot Camp: Polarized Society Facing Hybrid Challenges

On August 18-20, 2022, the event Boot Camp: "Polarized Society Facing Hybrid Challenges", organized by the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and the University of Georgia (UG), was held in which the students of the IDFI/UG Academic and Certificate Course - Disinformation and Propaganda Research: History, Theories and Means of Debunking were involved.
