OGP was launched in 2011 to provide an international platform for domestic reformers committed to making their governments more open, accountable, and responsive to citizens. OGP comprises 60 countries. Georgia joined the platform in 2011. From the very beginning IDFI was intensively involved in elaborating the recommendations and analyzes as well as in fulfillment of commitments obligations.

According to the regulations of the partnership, working on the Action Plan should be based on support from civil society and through active consultations with broader society, taking into account the existing guidelines and process. Besides, the guideline documents consider necessity of existence of a coordination and monitoring mechanism on national level. 

A consultation mechanism of Open Government Georgia "Open Government Georgia's Forum" was created with these goals in mind. The forum was created within the framework of Anti-Corruption Council. 

IDFI is a member and co-chair of Open Government Georgia's Forum.

In August, 2014 Georgia was elected as a member of Steering Committee, which consists of 8 members and is elected for two year timeframe.
