Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and European Law Students Association Georgia (ELSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Agreement was signed on 5th of March, 2014;
MoU aims to start cooperation in different fields including raising awareness on freedom of information, supporting transparency of public institutions and increasing involvement of students in different activities.
Director of IDFI, Giorgi Kldiashvili emphasized importance of engagement of students in activities carried out by IDFI and confirmed his readiness to support projects by ELSA.
In the framework of the cooperation organizations carried out first project. IDFI took part in conference about Access to Internet organized by ELSA.
Representative of IDFI, TeonaTurashvilidelivered presentation on development of Internet in Georgia. She talked about statistics of internet users, specificity of internet users, main problems of access to internet and importance of new technologies.
Besides, TeonaTurashvili discussed tendencies of development of e-governance in Georgia, existing challenges and current e-resources, established by government (including my.gov.ge, matsne.gov.ge). She informed students about Open Government Partnership (OGP) and responsibilities of Georgia, particularly about government platform ichange.ge.
Students were actively involved in the discussions right after presentation. They spoke about presentation topics and highlighted importance of online platforms, talked about the frequency of usage new technologies for conducting discussions and stating their opinions. Students mentioned the problems of access to internet in regions, including technical problems. They also stated several reasons of less active participation in online-discussions, particularly, lack of information. They said, that they did not have much information about e-services established by government. Moreover, expressing their opinion is not guarantee for taking them into consideration.
