IDFI wins court trial against Tbilisi City Court

Institute of Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) has won a court trial against the Tbilisi City Court on the issuing of public information from the Tbilisi City Court. Tbilisi City Court has been obliged to issue requested public information to IDFI during one month period.
IDFI requested the Tbilisi City Court to provide statistical information about operative-investigative action – eavesdropping and recording to telephone conversations since 1 November 2012. Tbilisi City Court Administration said IDFI requested information was secret.
According to one of the founders of IDFI Levan Avalishvili, IDFI requested public information from different bodies.
“We requested information from Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi City Courts, from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and the Prosecutor’s Office. We lost the court trial on the same case in Kutaisi. We received different responses from all the State bodies,” Avalishvili told Media.ge.
After the Tbilisi City Court will officially publish the verdict officially, IDFI plans to publish a material on the given issue.
IDFI was founded in June 2009. Organization aims to promote availability of public information, improvement of government openness and transparency by development of Internet-resources, promotion of development of civil society and introduction of democratic values.
