On July 17 the Archive Administration of the Informational-Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia was visited by the Director of the National Security Archive Mr. Tomas Blanton and the Director of the Russian Programs Dr. Svetlana Savranskaya.

The goal of the visit was to discuss the details regarding the planned international conference in October that will be held in Georgia (Batumi). The main topic of the conference is the Soviet History of Georgia according to the archival documents and the development of archival research.
Organizers of the conference are of the Informational-Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the National Security Archive (Washington, DC) and the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information.

Famous Georgian and foreign historians, researchers, scholars and specialists who worked in the Soviet Period Archives of Georgia (former Archive of the KGB of Georgia and former Archive of the Central Committee of Communist Party of Georgia) will participate in the conference. Also young researchers and student interested in studying and researching in the field of the history of Soviet Georgia will attend the conference.
The idea of the international conference is “Archives of All Countries Unite”. The goal of the conference is to establish connections between the archives of Post-Soviet States and to share experience in developing the archival research, also to initiate international projects and researches to work on documents kept in archives of Georgia and other states.
During the meeting Georgian and American sides discusses all issues related to the conference and also talked about the future plans to deepen and develop more actively cooperation between the Archive Administration of the Informational-Analytical Department of the MIA of Georgia, the National Security Archive and the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, cooperation that count several years already.
