Healthcare Cost Containment Mechanisms and Georgia’s Healthcare System

In 2015, just like during previous years, the universal healthcare program expenditures exceeded the foreseen budget. The statement made by the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) verifies the above-mentioned: “Healthcare costs were higher in 2015 than it was planned. The Government must supervise the costs and decrease them by increasing the efficiency of the universal healthcare program”. Therefore, the increase in healthcare expenditures is a prominent topic in Georgia, especially when government healthcare expenditures are insufficient. It is thus important to determine what the causes of such an increase are and what mechanisms of healthcare cost containment in Georgia we can employ.
