Access to Open Data in Georgia and Visegrad Countries

The research reviews the legislative framework of open data in Georgia and in four central European countries – Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Together with legislative frameworks, the document also analysis practices of access to open data, main open data platforms run in these countries and the frequency of open data utilization by local activists and private sector representatives on every-day basis. Recommendations for each country are also presented.

Fines for Illicit Garbage in Tbilisi in 2017

A total of 4,563 protocols were filed for illicit garbage disposal in Tbilisi in 2017. Among these, 338 for institutions and 4,225 for persons; Amount fined amounted to 933,227 GEL. Among this, 387,620 GEL from institutions and 545,607 GEL from persons.

Birth Rates in Georgia

In the last 10 years, 2017 marked the lowest birth rate indicator. Deterioration of the birth rate is due to a sharp decline in the births of first and second children. The state programmes put into motion after 2014 have failed to properly address the demographic challenges facing the country.

Considering Georgia’s chairmanship of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), commitments undertaken in the National Action Plan (NAP) are of utmost importance. Unlike previous OGP National Action Plans, the new action plan should be different, ambitious and have a transformative effect.

Statistics on Deprivation and Termination of Status for Internally Displaced Persons

IDFI's study on internally displaces persons revealed that: A total of 277,403 internally displaced persons are registered in Georgia; in 2014-2017, 1,232 persons were deprived of the IDP status. The most lost their status in 2015 – 625;  in 2014-2017, a total of 26,752 persons lost the status of IDPs. This was mostly due to the lack of compulsory registration in 2014; and in the following years, 5,567 persons were restored their status.

Statistics of Internally Displaced People by Income

IDFI visualization on the Statistics of Internally Displaced People by Income: in Georgia, a total of 277,403 internally displaced persons are registered; Out of the 277,403 IDPs registered in Georgia, only 3.4% (9,474 persons) have a monthly income that exceeds GEL 1,250.

Domestic Violence Statistics in Georgia

Domestic Violence Statistics in Georgia: The largest number of domestic violence cases were documented in Tbilisi, Imereti and Racha-Lechkhumi and Kakheti; Beginning with 2015, the number of domestic violence cases was increasing by 50%, which indicates a sharp increase in the number of willing complaints; and indicator of the number of cases closed decreased sharply in 2016 when compared to previous years.

Forest Fire Statistics: 2013-2017

In the territories under the purview of the LEPL National Forest Agency 270 forest fires took place in the last few years. The greatest number of forest fires took place in 2015. Compared to previous years, 2017 saw fires spread to 7 times as much area. In the last five years, forest fires spread to a total of 2,558.35 hectares area.
