In a few days, the Parliament of Georgia will hold the second hearing to discuss the bill on State Secrets; the author of the bill is an inter-agency working group, and the initiator is MP Irakli Sesiashvili (GD - Democratic Georgia). The bill, if passed, will replace the legislative act, adopted in 1996.

Giorgi Kldiashvili, Director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) was arrested by the Department of Central Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia when he was transporting home his registered collection firearm (Luger P08, issued in 1921) after it was repaired at official arms shop.
Today the Ombudsmen addressed Public Prosecutor to close criminal proceedings against the director of IDFI Giorgi Kldiashvili.

It has come to Coalition’s attention that the court has found his arrest illegal and held that the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had carried it out in violation of the requirements envisioned in law.
On December 12th, Department of Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained Giorgi Kldiashvili, director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) on charges of illicit carrying of firearms.
